Here is a classic example of a NLP style metaphor teaching story that is also quite hypnotic.
What's particularly cool about it is that this really happened, so it's a true story, just phrased in a slightly more mystical fashion and with the requisite language patterns in place.
Enjoy The Candle ... :-)
The Candle
I had a friend once who couldn't bear to light candles.
He had many in his rooms, many unlit candles, mostly gifts from friends for one occasion, or another.
One day when he was at mine and I lit candles he told me about how he hated the idea that they would burn, burn down, and then there would be nothing left, and the candle had been wasted.
I laughed and said that the whole purpose of a candle is to produce light for a time; and that by not lighting it, he was effectually robbing the candle of its existence, and condemning it to an everlasting hell of getting more and more dusty, more and more depressing as the years went by, and no light was being given.
He cried out, "Oh no! That's terrible!" and from that moment forth had no problems lighting candles - and appreciating the light they gave whilst they burned.
