How To Multi-Task - Multi-Tasking From The NLP Point Of View

How To Multi-Task - Multi-Tasking From The NLP Point Of View

Multi-tasking - what is that? How does that work? My oldest son recently became a Pa and made the comment that he would now have to learn to multitask as he had to look after the baby for some days of the week. Now I've run a business with a baby on my hip so I know a thing or two about the kind of multi-tasking he's talking about, namely doing more than one thing at a time. However, I learned some harsh lessons on the reality of multi-tasking so I thought this was a good opportunity to put the baby down, place the NLP virtual reality headgear over the left eye and take a look at multi-tasking from the NLP point of view.

Why Idiosyncratic Intrapersonal Metaphor Matters!

Why Idiosyncratic Intrapersonal Metaphor Matters!

Honestly ... People just don't know what they don't know. They presume that what they know is good enough to get by - and I guess it is. To get you "by." By what, I'm not sure; but that's beside the point. The point is that without a thorough understanding of the idiosyncratic intrapersonal nature of metaphor, true happiness can't be found. And that's a fact!

Visualisation Exercise For Beginners

Visualisation Exercise For Beginners

Visualisation or imaging or even imagining isn't the same process as "looking through your hard eyes".

It isn't a physical skill that is required for visualisation but instead a shift in consciousness you might call "learning to see with the eyes of night" or your energy eyes instead. Think of it like ...

Killing The Part Of Me That Is My Father - Parts, NLP & Language

This parts conflict scenario is something that does happen, we are familiar with it, and so we are generally happy to accept the idea that people have "parts". In and of itself, that's already both dubious as well as problematic; where the concept of parts begins to move into insanity is when we start talking in terms of, "The part of me that is my father."

Logical Levels & The Genius Symbols

Logical Levels & The Genius Symbols

Understanding logical levels, what they are, how they work, and finding your way around the logical levels of a problem, system or ecology with accuracy and ease is a very important part of sorting information in such a way that it becomes USEFUL.

This article contains an introduction to the concept of logical levels as it is used in NLP, using the example of The Genius Symbols, and a logical levels diagram.

The Candle

The Candle

Here is a classic example of a NLP style metaphor teaching story that is also quite hypnotic.

What's particularly cool about it is that this really happened, so it's a true story, just phrased in a slightly more mystical fashion and with the requisite language patterns in place.

Enjoy The Candle ... :-)

NLP Metaphor Story The Shortest Distance

What is the shortest distance between two points? It is held to be a direct line but that's NOT the whole NLP metaphor story ... Here we have one of those cases where real reality isn't like modelled reality.

Let me show you a picture to explain.

NLP Story: Timeline Orientation In Time VS Through Time

Here is an example of a simple NLP story which is of course also a metaphor, and an NLP training story about timeline orientation - in time vs through time. With a touch of conversational NLP and hypnosis changework. See if you can track all the patterns in the story, and in the way this NLP story is told. Good luck!

Why Metaphor Is A Really Bad Metaphor For Metaphor

The word "metaphor" derives from "amphora," an old system of carrying goods on ships much like containers are today.

These clay made, vase shaped containers all looked the same, and they were the same size, allowing for standardised handling, transportation and storage - but their contents could be quite literally, anything at all.

NLP and Metaphor for NLP Beginners

In my opinion, the problem with NLP and metaphor is that NLP attracts and is marketed to people who are far more at home with lists, facts and conscious-style logic than those who have a natural leaning towards the far more fluid, information rich and interactive form of data flow that is metaphor.

Metaphor can't be learned by studying examples of metaphor, or by learning lists of metaphorical objects and occurrences by heart; metaphor can't be "drilled" (eeouwh! that hurts, so bad ...) and most of all, metaphor can NEVER be understood by dissecting language into its component pieces.

So the main method by which NLP analyses strategies and language is essentially entirely unsuitable for teaching or even understanding the organic processes of metaphor. What is to be done?

Project Sanctuary - Interview With Master NLP Trainer Bob Bissallion

Project Sanctuary - Interview With Master NLP Trainer Bob Bissallion

A master NLP trainer and NLP workshop leader who shares his experiences so others can have a better life.
"I got an email from a friend of mine who wrote, "If you like metaphors, go to this Web site (http://www.projectsanctuary.com). Silvia [Hartmann] has written some cool stories and she's selling a book that she lets you preview online.” I checked the site out and ended up ordering the book. Once the I got the book, I couldn't put it down. I was captivated by her sanctuary concept and became really curious about the book's author. At the end of Silvia's Web site bio she wrote a line that compelled me to contact her. It read: " On Miami Vice, Sonny Crocket had a telephone answering message that went, 'Hi, this is Sonny. Tell me something I don't know.' I always rather liked that. So, in this spirit, email me."  So I emailed her, and this started our correspondence."

NLP Story Telling: The Corn Story

One of the most important abilities NLP has given me is to be able to create a teaching story smoothly and as it is required, for any audience at any time. The Corn Story is a classic NLP teaching story designed to put to rights all manner of confusing and limiting beliefs around the "nature vs nurture" debate. See if you believe that "you were born this way," you've pretty much had it as far as change and evolution is concerned.

So this story challenges many preconceptions and limiting beliefs on the topic; it is also a true story and a great example how a good NLP story may be something you already have inside, you just haven't shared it yet ...
